Every family has its own way of keeping things. Photographs go into albums, envelopes, plastic bags, or whatever box is available. Sometimes they stay there for decades.
Keeping them and knowing what to do with them are different things. A collection can matter deeply to someone while the thought of sorting through it feels overwhelming. There are people to identify, dates to remember, and decisions that are easier to put off for another day.
Eventually, that day may come. The bags, bundles, and loose prints are gathered into a box, ready for someone to help make sense of them.
A collection doesn’t need to arrive neatly organized. Understanding what is there, and what it means to the family, is where the work begins.
