Numbers Without an Order

At first glance, the numbers and labels on these slide mounts suggest a system. Yet the slides themselves are mixed together in a box, with no clear sequence.

The markings may offer clues, but they don’t explain themselves. Do they refer to dates, processing batches, or an earlier arrangement? Which slides belong together, and what might their order tell us?

Before putting them into a new sequence, the task is to understand what remains of the old one. That means looking at the images alongside the markings, noting possible connections, and leaving room for what is still unknown.

Having numbers is one thing. Knowing what they mean is where the work begins.
